Subject: How to Install Link Technologies Software Applications
Summary:    
Below are the instructions on how to install Link Technologies Software Applications. The installation package contains the following applications:
  1. Link Payroll and Human Resource management
  2. Link Point of Sales
  3. Link Reporting Tools
  4. Link SQL Audit Application
  5. Link Database Update Tools
A summary of installations steps are listed below.

  1. Download the installation
  2. Extract the installation files and run the setup.exe
  3. Follow the installation wizard to complete installation
  4. Run the Database Utility to:
    1. Create a New Empty Database
    2. Create a New Demo Database
    3. Upgrade an existing installation with database scripts
Below are screenshots that take you through a step by step installation process:

1. Download the installation files from the downloads section of our web site as shown below:

LinkSOFT Applications require the DOT NET Framework 3.5 and the Crystal run-time 13.0.1. You may download and install these separately or you can download them as a single installation package (known as the Combined Installation Package).

The combined installation package contains the 32 and 64 bit frameworks as well as link applications. The file size is approximately 500MB.

To download the combined installation package, choose to download the LinkSOFT Application with Framework
To download just the LinkSOFT application (Without Framework), choose LinkSOFT Application - Current Release

There are two installation files that can be downloaded from our downloads site here.



2. Once downloaded, extract the files and run the installation package as shown below. If you have downloaded the installation package which includes the Framework, the install system will automatically check if the framework exists and install the required framework. If the framework is already installed, the installation package will skip the framework component.

Run the installation using the setup.exe as shown below:



Important Note:
  1. Use the setup.exe if you want the system to check for prerequisite frameworks. This option will check if the Crystal run-time version 13.0.X and the dot net framework 3.5 is installed.
  2. If you do not want to check for the crystal reports or dot net frameworks, use the setup.msi. You may want to do this if you administrator needs to install these frameworks or if you want to use an older version of the framework.
Follow the installation wizard as shown below:



Choose the installation folder. It is recommended to choose the default path selected by the system as shown below: Click NEXT to continue.



Click on NEXT to confirm the installation steps. This will install all LinkSOFT applications based on the selected options.



The installation will start. Please let the installation complete. You will get a message indicating the installation is completed as shown below:





Once the installation is completed, you will see three application shortcuts on your desktop. The windows 8 view is shown below.

There will be 5 application shortcuts shown in the user shortcuts folder. the additional two applications are administrative tools. The first if the Database Update Tool and the second is the Link SQL Audit Tool. Refer to the user guide on how to use these applications.


They are described below.



Now that the software installation is complete, you need to install the database system. To initiate the Database update, select Link Database Update icon as shown below (Windows 8 view. Windows XP will have these icons in the START -> Link Technologies folder):



The following options appear. below is a description of each item:
  • Create a New...: This option allows you to create a new LinkSOFT application database. Use this to create a new database for your production system.
  • Create a Demo...: This option installs a database that has sample data. This can be used for training, demonstrations, proof of concepts etc
  • Apply Upgrade...: This option will allow you to update an existing database with upgrade scripts. Use this to upgrade your database to the current version
  • Server: Enter your SQL database server name. Use the drop down list to automatically populate the list of available servers
  • Windows Authentication: Use this option to connect to your SQL database server using windows integrated security
  • SQL Server Authentication: Use this option if you have an administrative use account for your SQL database server
  • Database: Enter the name of your database. Check with your database administrator if you are not sure of these options.


If you select Create a new or Create a Demo system, use the RUN button to start the process. A progress bar will show you the status. Please allow up to 5 minutes to complete(The time taken depends on the system performance. Typical time for Demo system is 1 minute).



Once the database update is completed, you will a message as shown below:



If you choose to Apply Upgrade, you will need to choose a Database to upgrade. Once you have selected your database, select the RUN button. This will show you the current database version in RED as shown below. You can select which update to apply. Please contact Link Technologies support if you are not familiar with which update to apply.

Please note that using this update option will upgrade your database. Make sure you have a backup and perform this option when users have logged off the system.



If you choose to upgrade a database other than a LinkSOFT database, you will receive a message as shown below. Please contact Link Technologies support if you are not aware of your database configuration.



Once you have selected which updates to apply, click on the APPLY button. You will see a message indicating the scripts have been applied after which the new database version will be displayed s shown below:





Now that the software installation is complete, you may log in to the applications. Note the next steps are:

  1. Log into the applications and request a licence registration.
  2. Configure your system as required
  3. Start using your system.
