Subject: Steps to Upgrade Linksoft.
Summary:    

Below are the steps to upgrade LINKSOFT applications.

When upgrading LINKSOFT database, please note the following:

STEP 1 - TEST System Upgrade - Use the TRAINING or TEST environment for this. This step is called: TRIAL UPGRADE

  1. Post all transactions. Close all open pays, close any open Shifts, Activate open sales orders and post all GL transactions
  2. Generate control reports so that you can compare report values after the upgrade. This is to give confidence to end users that the upgrade has not changed data. Examples of control reports are: Age Trial Balance, Sales report for a selected period, Payroll summary for a selected period etc
  3. Using the TRAINING or TEST environment, perform the upgrade
  4. Perform new version training
  5. Generate control reports and compare with 2. above
  6. Get key users to confirm that the trial upgrade has completed successfully.

STEP 2 - Production Upgrade Preparation

  1. Create a folder where we can store all files before the upgrade. Call this folder "Link Technologies XXXX", where XXXX is he version number.
  2. Post all transactions. Close all open pays, close any open Shifts, Activate open sales orders and post all GL transactions
  3. Take a backup of the database before upgrade and place it in 2.1 above
  4. Generate control reports so that you can compare report values after upgrade.

STEP 3 - Perform the upgrade

The steps to be performed as outlined below:

The Server Machine:

  1. Download the new version from our website.

  2. Go to C drive ---> Program Files (x86) ---> there is a folder as “Link Technologies”, Copy this folder into the "Before Upgrade" documents folder created in 2.1 above. Rename the copied folder as “Link Technologies XXXX”. The XXXX will represent the current version of the database, for example, if the client is on 7503, the renamed folder will appear as Link Technologies 7503. DO NOT RENAME OR DELETE THE ORIGINAL "Link Technologies" folder.

  3. Uninstall the Link Technologies application.

  4. Install the new version downloaded in step 1 above.

  5. Open Link Database Tools, follow these steps:

    1. Click on “Apply Upgrade Scripts to an Existing LinkSOFT Database” ([1] - See figure 1 below).

    2. From Database selection, choose the database “LINKSOFT ([2] - See figure 1 below).

    3. Click on Run ([3] - See figure 1 below), the scripts to be applied will be highlighted

    4. Click on “Start Upgrade” ([4]- See figure 2 below).

  6. After successfully upgrade, login into Back Office.


Client Machines:

  1. Paste the new version Installation Files on the client machine.

  2. Go to C drive ---> Program Files (x86) ---> there is a folder as “Link Technologies”, Copy this folder into the "Before Upgrade" documents folder created in 1. above. Rename the copied folder as “Link Technologies VVVV”. The VVVV will represent the current version of the database, for example, if the client is on 7503, the renamed folder will appear as Link Technologies 7503. DO NOT RENAME OR DELETE THE ORIGINAL "Link Technologies" folder.

  3. Uninstall the Link Technologies application.

  4. Install the new version.

  5. Login into Back Office. Ensure to correct the server name.


UPGRADE IS NOW COMPLETED

To verify the upgrade, log on to the application and check the title bar. The new version should be displayed.
