Subject: System uses the license of HQ based active users from branch.
Summary:

Hi Team,

We are getting support case where user are unable to log in HQ. This is because the active users from branch are replicated as active at HQ.

Scenario

  1. HQ has a license for 1 user.
  2. 4 active branch users are replicated to HQ.
  3. Hence there are now 4 active users in HQ database. Physically at HQ user is unable to log in.

Licence should be based on Server and allowed concurrent users.

Sanjay and Alvis to review how Replication affects licence checks.

We have verified the license check. Please note the following:

  1. POS and Reporter was not checking the expiry date. This has been resolved in 8.10.001
  2. Backoffice uses the number of concurrent licenses based on "LINKADMIN" users logged in into a specific database. Example if Manager is logged in head office, Manager cannot login in a branch. This uses 1 license head office only. If the branch only has 1 license, a user other than user Manager can log in.

Please proceed with UAT once patch 1 is released.

Hi Team,

As per the discussion with Vineet and Alvis,

  1. The license are machine level.
  2. One user license is used by the web applications under  IIS.  That is if , 1 user license has been applied to machine LINKQA1, users will be able to log into the application from QA1. However if users log out from LINKQA1 and try logging from  LINKQA3 they will not be able to. This is because the 1 user license is been used by the IIS in LINKQA1.
  3. In addition, if someone is logged in SQL with linkadmin this also uses a user license.

Testing case further  with 2 user license.

Regards
Rashna

Case moved to discussion.

Suggestion is to use a different user for IIS. This is because user license has impact on AM calculations.

For discussion in tomorrows meeting

Rashna and Vineet

---- Development Meeting Discussion 11/04/2017 Sanjay, Alvis, Sanjeet, Rashna, Vineet ----

To avoid this problem there are 2 options that can be used:

  1. Change the username and password in web config files from Linkadmin to some other DB user
  2. Issue more than 1 license for users who use the web application.
Assigning case to development to update help file on how license is used on each servers.

Best Regards
Vineet Ram
